Join us for a TEDxAlgonquinPark Adventure: Behind the Scenes Tour of Algonquin Park Forest Management

What is a TEDx Adventure? Adventures extend the TEDx phenomenon beyond the single day of the conference, enabling many more people to participate as we extend the possibilities for both speakers and audiences. By holding adventures many more people can become involved in presenting, learning, and advancing ideas into action. By offering an alternative format to the standard TED talk, concepts that are not easily communicated in a brief presentation can be explored and discussed. Adventures can include hands-on or on-site experiences, deepening understanding and accelerating the spread of ideas.

Join us for a half-day tour to explore and learn about sustainable forestry in Algonquin Park. We will be travelling to a number of sites within Algonquin Park to see first-hand how forestry operations are conducted.

This adventure includes visits to a variety of locations that showcase how forest operations are carried out and what the regenerating forest looks like years later. We will also be viewing and discussing many unique and interesting historical aspects of forestry in Algonquin Park, including a visit to a local sawmill to see the economic importance of Algonquin’s forests and to view the manufacturing of forest products that might end up in your house. Join in the discussion about forest management planning and how it contributes to a healthy growing forest, a vibrant local economy and a world-class provincial park, all while maintaining the ecological integrity of the forest.

Start time: Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Algonquin Park East Gate. Transportation for the tour is provided.

Spots are limited, so please register HERE as soon as possible. This Adventure is brought to you in partnership with Ontario Parks, Algonquin Forestry Authority and McRae Lumber Company.
